Hey, been kinda dead around here lately, just wondering if any of you got all your corn in and what do you have for a planter set up. We use a IH 656 and a 56 6 row planter. Didnt get to plant any wide rows for my 234 so ill just have to take one row at a time.
Well, don't know yet Tony, will find out in a few hours... I'm supposed to be planting test plots with the 1456 and 900 cyclo tomorrow. Otherwise the SM and my 400 do my personal planting (which is nothing this year ). 31440 pop out of the 400, I'll see what we have the 900 set at this weekend. 38" rows, by the way, standard wides.
Yikes, were you using the right plates??? I didn't have that much bad luck with the 456 I used my first year (besides one of my row units falling off ). I guess I never truly checked it either. How fast do you pull that planter? Found that the 456 didn't like fast speeds at all, one advantage the cyclo's REALLY had over the plates. Didn't get pop settings on the 900, test plot went in before I got home on Friday with all the good weather (and that this year was one of the best for the 900 repair wise). You might be shocked, sometimes that 28,000 mark out performs the 30,000... Some of the seed we sell the company states right on the bag DO NOT EXCEED 30,000 PLANT POPULATION. I took that seriously, as you'd think a pop over 30,000 would boost sales amounts. All depends on variety, and I guess if you are putting in Pioneer again this year they probably have varieties better suited for higher pops.
Was going about 5mph, about as fast as we went with the old JD 494A. Right plates, checked to make sure we were on the right sprockets, and we did, must be a minor adjustment. Corn is up now though, so cant complain.
