New Idea eats corn

I have a New Idea 300 and only used it twice. I hope to use it this year but I noticed a little problem last time. On the front where the corn gets pulled in by the 2 rollers they are supposed to pull the stalk down and then rip the ear off. I noticed the ear would go right down with the stalk on about 1/3 of the stalks. It would just chew the ear up with corn flying everywhere. disbelief

The rest of the machine works fine but there is alot of wasited corn. I have a manual for it laying around here some place.

Sounds like the rollers are set too far apart.  This is often a problem in short corn with low ear sets.  Should be an adjustment to bring in clearance between the rollers.  Not sure how it is on a 300, but on newer Superpickers there is a lever behind the outer row gearboxs.

I think the lever behind the machine is for that but it doesnt seem to move it any at the end of the roller where it snaps the ear off. I did find my manual today.
