What is the ideal moisture to pick corn at? I have a New Idea 324 and I tried it out this year. It ran great, however there seemed to be a lot of corn loss on the ground. We were thinking it was due to the corn being too dry and coming off the cob too easily. Moisture was down to 16%. Is that too dry, or is there some other issue I should look for. Thanks.
Yes - your corn is too dry for picking on the ear. Ideal moisture is around 20%. At this moisture, it will dry down nicely in a crib (as long as the crib has good air movement around it) and will not shell excessively when picked and handled on the way to the crib.
