New.

Hi,am new here.Have been"looking and listening"quite awhile and decided to join in. I`m (slowly) rebuilding a Massey self-propelled picker that set in a shed for many years.Later one with the 6-cylinder.Would be interesting to hear any pros-cons-stories, about these units.I only remember 1 in the neighborhood when I was young. My dad had a Massey mounted picker on a "44"when I was real little, wish I still had that, still have the "44" though.

Welcome aboard!  I'd love to see pics of the progress.  I had family that had a Massey dealership in the 50's.  My grandpa built a 1/16 scale model of the self propelled picker.  I almost bought one to restore a couple years ago but it was too far gone.  My uncle has a 33 Diesel that my great-grandfather bought new from the family dealership. I don't have any Massey's yet but I'd like to pick up a 44 at some point.

Welcome also. I have a 1953 6 cylinder MH SP. We had one when I was young , but don't remember much . There were several I our area. They have alot of pros -cons , big capacity, didn't tie up a tractor, but weren't great in the mud or on hills, and like all pickers easy to catch on fire. I have picked with mine, take it to Midwest Old Threshers, Mt Pleasant ,Iowa . A lot of people come to talk and have never seen one , or have a story about one of them. If I can help give me a call 319-572-0914 , Don Mathews , Danville , Iowa

We almost bought one from a neighbor but i think relative was intimidated by it. I belive it probably was the the one a neighbor had who had raised seed corn .He talked about custom picking and how cold it was going home from one job in dead of winter on a machine that only went about 10 mph. He has passed now.
