Thanks!   I was wondering about the reel as well.  Talking with the guy I got it from this was one of four they had. He said it was a tough choice which one to keep when they scrapped the others a few years ago.  I guess the reel was the reason this one was kept. He said it works great for oats that are down.

Good looking allcrop! Was it a bear to pull home?I have considered buying a 72 that is 100 miles away.Didn't know what kind of situation I would get in pulling it home. I think you will really enjoy using it.Keep us posted on using it.

It is definitely a Hume reel, wiped the dust off and can still read the logo.  It wasn't too bad pulling it home. Most of the distance was a state highway wide enough to keep on the pavement and in my lane. Top speed about 35 (a little slower than the two pickers I've brought home)  I did weld another offset hitch on the truck before I went to get it though. That narrowed up my overall width by 18" or so.  The best part is it just barely fits in the shed.biggrin

I think the biggest thing hauling them is to make sure you have plenty of grease in the wheel. I don't think they have wheel bearings but use a shaft through a bushing.

Forgot to mention that, hubs got greased before I left, checked after a few miles for heat, greased again about halfway and rechecked before I got home.

I have about $600 in it with the extra belts and canvases and fuel to get it home.  I'm sure on an auction I would have had to pay more.  I have seen IH and John Deere units in worse shape bring twice that locally in the past few months.
