uni 701

Going to look at a 701 uni. What do I need to look for, 292 chevy powered. 729a sheller, 727 husker, 734 corn head. Any idea what it would weigh? Wondering about hauling it.

You would want to make sure it has the heavier duty transmission. The heavier transmission used universals between the transmission and the final drive, on both sides. The older lighter transmission had straight splined shafts. Many were converted to the heavier transmission, but I have seen a few lighter ones still around. Frame, rims and final drives were made much heavier (more bolts, thicker, etc.) with the next series of uni tractor (703, 704, 705, etc). We broke the axle in the left final drive of a 702 we used to use. This happened in the middle of a flat smooth field, had a 737 husker on it, would not want that to happen on a steep hill. Later ones had much more screens around the engine, better cooling.

The other poster below has given you some good info. Drive it to make sure that is operates smooth, such as the variable speed. Look at the belt on it, they are costly to replace.

I hauled one of mine when I got it a year ago. Here is how we did it:

Got it to run today. Will have to get the gas tank cleaned out before it can be used. Hooked an electric fuel pump up with a 5 gallon can.
