BAck in the 50s, case made a ear harvesting attachment for their pull-type chopper. It was a snapper head that had an elevator that went over the back of the chopper to deposit ears into a following wagon. The stalks still went through the chopper. The chopper gooseneck chute was turned to the side and the chopped material was either blown on the ground or into another wagon being towed alongside. I've only seen a vintage ad for one, and none of the old timers around here had ever seen one. Anybody on here ever encounter such a beast?
Had one, just sold it about 2 weeks ago. It was in rough shape, probably never been inside, missing 2 gearboxes, and believe it or not, never used !! I knew I wouldn't be able to do anything with it for years, so I sold it to a Case collector. Rosenthal (spelling?) known for its husker-shredder, also made a picker-chopper. I have some information and literature on both and will include both in the corn picker book. If I ever find some free time, I will post pictures of the Case picker-chopper and show proof that it was never used. CornPickerBob
