Hey guys I'm being curious and i'm wandering how many acres can you pick in a day with a 2 row new idea picker. Just a ball park average. Last yr was my first yr using a 324 picker with the 329 super sheller and it just seemed like it took me along time to get my 40 acres done. I mean i wasn't use to the machine so i took my time and was going probably 2.5 mph and plus last fall it kept raining and seemed like it didnt wanna stop. This I may try to go 3rd gear this yr like 3.5 mph and i got 6 wagons now instead of 4 last yr.
I don't think I'd go much faster than 2.5 mph - maybe 3 mph at the most (unless you have low-yielding corn this year). These machines were made for 100 to 150 bushel corn at the most and that mph range was common back when these machines were new. If you are running 175-200 bushel corn, 2 to 2.5 mph might be all the faster you should go. I know back when we picked most of our corn with a NI 2-row picker we thought we we had a good day if we got 10 acres a day done.
My record is 12 acres in a day in 160 bu. corn . . . but I was filling cribs right near the field . . . with 2 cousins with 2 tractors hauling to 2 elevators.

Hopefully i can be more productive this yr with the picker seeing I'm more familar with it now, more compared to when i started last yr i never ran one and i had a belt that kept going bad. I'm on wide rows i be happy if i can get 80 bu to the acre this yr my ground not the best so i gotta start getting lime put out and if I can start averaging 100 to 130 bu I'd be happy.
I pick with a 325 and a 656 ih first gear is all I want or dare go in. I'm not good at fix'n plus I don't like to fix, this is in 150+ bu corn slow and no break downs IMO is still better then go fast in the morning and fix all afternoon.
I'm with starvation. We pick with a 324 pulled by an AC D-17 and stick with 1st gear, usually with the hand clutch in low. We have a hillside farm, though, so maybe up to low 2nd on nice, flat ground. The old gal eats pretty steady as long as she doesn't try to eat too fast. Our cribs are anywhere from 50 yards to 1/4 mile from the corn, which varies our daily progress.
i use my ih 1066 an was great last yr but the belt on the back of the 329 sheller kept coming off pully and then it broke. When i examined it i realized the pully was bad and i fixed it and got another belt and after that it was great .
