Corn picking at Farmamerica

HPIM3438.JPGThis past Saturday, Nov. 8, we picked a couple loads of corn at the Minnesota Agricultural Interpretive Center.  The plan is to store it till next year and then demonstrate shelling it at our Fall Fair event.

One of the pickers we used was a New Idea no. 7 that we bought last year.  It had not been in the field in close to 10 years.  We replaced the wood bottom in the elevator and one or two other small parts.  It worked like a champ!

We also had a New Idea no. 300 two row picker, but were only able to pick one row at a time due to the corn being planted in narrow rows.  It also had not been used for several years.

Tim, I'm not exactly sure how tall the picker is. It is stored over at Farmamerica, so don't have immediate access to it. If I get back over there I'll try and remember to measure it. I'm guessing about 10-11 feet, but that's only a guess.
The Farmall H belongs to them also. A couple of the guys repainted it a few years back. I agree it looks really nice--and it handled the picker really well.

Tim, I replied to your other thread also, but thought I'd put it here too. I was out there today and measured ours. Unhooked from the tractor it is 10 ft. from the top of the elevator to the ground. When hooked to the tractor it lowers the elevator accordingly. The door on the shed it's stored in is 9 ft. high. When I backed it in there, it went in with only inches to spare. A 10 ft. door would probably be better, but 9 ft. will work.
