A little over a year ago I posted pictures of setting up a Cowin Corn Saver crib and now thought I would post pictures of how a Kewanee #500 elevator was converted into a drag feed and mounted underneath. First the trunk of the elevator was removed from the running gear. Next the chain was removed then reversed and bottom "boot" was removed to go the opposite direction so it would still be driven from the same end (bottom). Then, the angle iron from the running gear was repurposed as support brackets to hold the elevator in place under the crib. Next the wheels/axle were used to roll the elevator under the crib. The elevator was the lifted up by come-a-longs to be held in place while torching holes in the crib frame to bolt brackets to. The finishing touches be welding the square end of the pto shaft that bolts to elevator drive to a keyed coupler that fit the shaft of the orbit motor, then bolting a chain from orbit motor to crib channel to keep from spinning. Yes I did a trial run earlier this fall when everything got mounted...and yes is intended for going into a grinder-mixer and ground the first load of feed with it today and it worked out really well. Having it up tight to the bottom of the crib also cuts down on the mess outside of the shell corn falling through the mesh on bottom of the crib.
