It's always the third Saturday in October which will be the 17th this year. I think it's on. I'll be there by myself this year because my cousin will be at a wedding. I hope I can get someone to take some video and stills while I'm picking.
Here's an image from Google Maps. Looks like H30 to H65 to 305th st. to 710 ave. The farmstead is just northeast of town. If you zoom in on the farmstead with Google Maps, you can see corn pickers in the yard.
I didn't know there was such a thing out there, might try and make it this year if time allows. How big of an event is this? Only one I've ever been to is the picker reunion in Walnut IL.
I've attended the past two years. Maybe 30 guys at the morning safety briefing. This is also a plowing event and some come just to plow. I'm surprised there aren't more participants but I'm sure a person's own crops take priority. There are about a dozen pickers but not all are operational. Loads are generally left at the end of the field to be taken to the M-M sheller. There's food and beverages on site. It's a small but very satisfying event.
Here are a few images I took this past Saturday. When I saw almost all the pickers parked together, I asked if they might have a step ladder I could use for an overhead shot. They responded by providing a forklift. I'll post more after some cropping. I took only a few in action photos because I was in action myself and put the camera in the car.
I'd be happy just being able to walk among the pickers pictured there. Great pics. Makes me miss my truscale tractor and mounted picker on it. Bet it covered more acres than all of these put together! LOL . At least that's what my mom said from patching the knees on my jeans.
