Oliver #5 Sinle row picker

Hello.. I just purchased an older Oliver No. 5 Single row corn picker... I have been told that by placing a sheet of tin or metal over the husking bed they will pick corn without removing the husks, which is my desire. I never used a corn picker before and know very little about them. My question is? Has anyone ever done this? Would anyone have a picture of what would need to be done to pick corn without removing the husks... I sort of understand the process, but I am clueless to where exactly to place the sheet of tin and how to secure it? Thanks any help would be greatly appreciated. Steve

The ones pictured in the John Deere #227 parts book appear to be nothing more than a smooth piece of tin, the length of the husking rolls, bent up on the long edges, and attached to the sides of the husking box.

Obviously, these pieces of tin would go under the flights of the ear conveyor.

What drives the husking rolls on your Oliver picker, it might be just as easy as removing a chain, or disengaging a gear.
