Hi folks, I noticed some winged bugs in the small pile of corn left in my corn crib afew few weeks ago when I ground feed. A neighbor said they were a type of weevil and since it was a wooden crib, I needed to spray for te bugs after I ground the last load of feed, before I start putting my new corn in. He said it had been to long since he had seen ear corn in a crib to remember what people sprayed. Does anyone know what you spray the crib with? Also I have a friend that's a really big grain farmer, they use diatomaceous earth in their bins with shell corn for insects, would this work
I do the same thing before I fill the wooden overhead bins in the grainery - spray the walls and floor with a malathion spray. It comes in a gallon container and you mix it with water in a pump-up hand sprayer. Read the label directions but if I remember correctly its about 5 ounces per gallon of water.
Thanks for the help! I cleaned out the last of the corn and sprayed the crib thoroughly with malathion in a back pack sprayer, then I sprinkled the floor and cracks with feed grade diatomaceous earth. The next day I did not find one single bug. I may try the tempo next year so resistance doesnt build up. Thanks again, lots of good knowledge on this forum that may have been lost without you all taking the time to help people out.
