I farm alone as far as crops go, wife and daughter help with the cows. Anyway when picking in the ear I try to pick the fields nearest to the place. If I have the elevator set, tunnels tied in place and everything ready to go I can pick one of the 1000 bu cribs full in a good day. Not sure of the number of acres that requires in a normal year. I also pick into a Killbros 350 gravity box but I never unhook, I pick the wagon full pull into the elevator unload and then back out to the field. One year there was a neighbor that showed up just as I was unloading the last load he said how many days did that take told him just today and he said BS. Now this is a bleed green guy I told him if he would have ever ran a IH 234 he would know what a real picker is. Sorry I tend to get alittle long winded from time to time but I'm sortof proud of what that 234 can do.
Nothing wrong with having the God-given right to have some pride in the 234. That's all I had to say. Super topic, I'll have to ask my grandfather for our answer.
Hmm....I have trouble with putting the 350 killbros behind my 234. I think its cuz its too high, my elevator hits on the bottom. We had to raise the wagons so we could get underneath the elevator and the graincart in the cow barn.
It is off, dad just has it up really high for unloading. Did they make a long elevator for the 234? Is it a totally different elevator or just an add on to what there is already?
Now my experience running a picker was for my B-I-Ls and it was a pull type New Idea picking into gravity box. It also needed an extension because the elevator was too steep and the corn kept tumbling down. Slowed down the process. Now as for longer elevators, I know that green pickers have been bashed here already and I don't have any preference since I haven't ran red or green. But the 237 Deere picker that I am getting and what brings me to this board, has a 4 foot extension on the end of the elevator to make it longer. Don't know if IH did something like that or not. Sorry to bring green into a red discussion but thought it might be timely.
I am sure that somewhere in my operators manuals or parts books it says something about either a longer elevator or an extension for it. Tireguy yes the 234 was the last picker made by IH. I am not sure as to what the last production year was but think it had to be in the early 70's. Someone on here will have the exact year. I have three of the 234s and would like to know what year each one was built if anyone knows where we can find a serial number break down.
Well I do know that my 234 picker is a '66. You can tell by the updates that they featured. My serial number is #2610. Another way to tell if its an early one is if the elevator has McCormick International on it, that was from the mid-60's
