I am looking for a drive shaft for the elevator chain for a JD 300 cornpicker. JD says they are obsolete and can not get one. Does anyone know of a salvage yard that may have these old pickers, or a source for the shaft.
I believe that is a hex shaft. You should be able to buy that at your local steel supplier. I've had to make shafts similar to that out of blank hex shaft. The best part is that its almost free compared to what Deere wants for one with holes drilled in it and green paint!
Thank you for the info. I was able to find a piece of the hex shaft at a Tool and Die shop late yesterday. It was a piece of scrap for them so they gave it too me!
