Cleaning Tips Wanted

I have a 3 row New Idea 330 picker/sheller.  2008 was my first year of picking so I new to this.

The shelled corn was a little contaminated with cob pieces and some husk parts.  Is there a way to adjust to optimize clean output?  Recommended speed?

Also, it looks like it's almost impossible to completely clean out the various chambers of this monster.  There is a shaker bed that I havn't figured out how to clean at the end of the picking season.

I'd appreciate any tips on these and other picking practices

Thanks

My 329 sheller manual has some things you can try to adjust to clean up the corn a little.

You can try to adjust the discharge gate.  Turn the handle in the front by the drive belt clockwise to close the gatemore or turn it counterclockwise to open it more.  The manual says to have the gate open as much as possible but still have the sheller shelling all of the corn off the cob.

You can also adjust the fan speed.  On the back end of the sheller under the orange shield is the fan pulley.  The very bottom one on the left.  There are two nuts on the end.  Turn those in to decrease the fan speed and out to increase the fan speed.  If you speed up the fan this should blow the husks and cobs out.

Thank You for the input.  I'll try it.  As a matter of fact I spent some time working on the sheller tonight.  The discharge gate crank is seized up.  I remove the access door and one of the bottom panels and spayed it with penetrating spray.

Good advice on the fan too.  I expect to start picking in a week or two.
