Back when I was a UFT dealer, they were still listing a one row corn picker by their Calhoun Manufacturing subsidiary in Georgia as late as 1995. We never had a call for them, but they were listed as available by special order. two questions: any one ever seen one, and could these qualify as the last US build corn pickers? I have heard that these were warmed over Olivers, but you couldn't prove it by me. If I knew then what I know now, I believe I would have ordered a couple of them.
A jockey in Pennsylvania had a UFT picker on the lot about 7 years ago. I saw it, sure looked like Oliver #5 guts with some cosmetic changes. Supposedly was about 15 years old then. . . never have seen another.
Yeh back in the 80s UFt started making them again. It was based on the old oliver.I'm surprised someone never went back and started making the 72 all corp combine again. Especially the amish as handy as they are in the shop with their small factories .
It was interesting that they were listing them as coming out of the Georgia plant...my territory man said they were aimed at cattle feeders. I really don't know if they had husking beds or were just snappers (all the old cattle feeders liked a little shuck to go thru the mill, they said it made 'em chew their cud better).
Any how, it seems there should at least be some small demand still for a small picker. BTW have you seen the little Indian-chinese combines that mount on the little two wheel tractors...they make an old All Crop look like behemoth.
