Original post: If i want the husks on my ears(my hammermill doesn't care and my steers could careless as well) can the husking rollers be disabled or adjusted? I've never run a corn picker before.

On a New Idea 323, you could release the spring pressure all the way and remove the steel pegs from the rollers and it will leave more husks on, but you might have more trouble clearing ears from the bed.
I'm sorry but unless that picker is brand new that is just way too much. There are two rows advertised online that could be hauled there for way less than that. !!I'd do a lot of hand picking even before id pay that much. lol You could pick enough by hand and use electric fence to let the cattle do some self havesting . Unless that thing is in like new condition and there are those you can buy lots cheaper. You could go out with your pickup and hire some mexicans to help you for way less than that.Or hire someone with a combine to open up the field and take a load to the elevator and have them grind it for you when the weather is too nasty to be outside grinding or your too sick or busy. So you got a post in the wrong place, we dont care. we just care that you're here and like these old pickers. That way we can also tell you how to be safe around them. Hang around and enjoy.
Travel a little farther, might find a good one for less. This one is low wear, but has no options. No snapper elevator trash beater, no wagon elevator cover, no hydraulic lift. Try www.stitzelfarm.com in Hamburg PA. You can also find MGD equipment on tractorhouse, they are in Myerstown, PA, might have a picker. For that money, you can buy a really nice 2-row narrow 325 and have capacity to expand if you ever need it.
THE PROBLEM WITH LEAVING THE HUSKS ON THE EARS IS THE CORN WILL NOT DRY DOWN ENOUGH TO KEEP. YOU NEED HUSK OFF SO THE AIR WILL CIRCULATE AROUND THE EARS IN THE CRIB TO PREVENT MOLD AND OTHER SPOILAGE.

I'm learnin' Yawl've been alot of help. What should watched or looked at a bit closer when shoppin' for a picker? I'vewondered if leavin' the husk wouldn't cause drying problems. Weeds a problem? morning glory or johnson grass stalks?
again thanks Robie

Broken castings of cast iron, worn rubber ,wore bearings, But fortunatly with modern thinking and technology we can repair, or replace anything on these and other machines if we want to bad enough. This site is turning into the best source online for info of where to get parts ,, how to fix or where to get things rebuilt.
