I have a question about a 2M galvanized cornpicker that I intend on restoring. A few of the corner seams on the elevator are splitting. Is there any trick to welding the galvanized metal, or should I just skip that if it is a hassle and brace the corners with some other metal? My Dad, who used to use it, has done some bracing in spots, and some welding in spots. Niether way looks very good to me, however maybe my Dad maybe wasn't the best galvanized metal welder. I'm just wondering what the consensus would be here, or if anyone has done any repair like that and may have any good ideas for me.
Galvanized is hard to weld. your best bet would be to find a welder that will come to your farm and weld it for you. They're usually pretty reasonable.
