Anyone ever have any experience with one of those bucket elevators built into the corn crib? My grandpa has one in his grainery but hasn't used it in over 20 years.
There is a guy in Ottumwa Iowa that has one in working order he had it in operation at his antique harvest days show last fall and I did get some video of it. It was a unit made by John Deere. If you go to you tube and click on jda227 you can see video of it in operation.

Thats Uncle Dave, he has a fall harvest days every october. He went to alot of trouble to move that elevator from from where he bought to where he set it up. If u ever see this u will understand when u see just how big this elevator. It took a crew of about 5 guys to take this apart.
Nice video. I've never seen one that goes up and returns on the same side. The only ones that I've seen go up one side of the alley and return down the other side with a drive-over pit in the floor.
I've got a Meyer that goes up and down on the same side,It was in the crib when we bought the farm. Used it for 4 yrs till hte chain broke. Just bought another farm down the road, it also has the same elevator in it. Both of these cribs have slopped bottom overhead bins. We used to store 45oo bu of beans in mine. Mine also had a scale in it and 4 ft wide ally and wider ear corn storage
I used one two years ago to fill a small crib ! It had not been used in 20 years but got it going , was neat ! The chain did break and did manage to get it together ! The are a lot of them around here yet , and it was amazing that their was so many differant chains in them ! Did some creative enginering and got it running !
