Picking corn by hand

A friend of mine is leaving 6 rows of corn standing for "snow fence" so we was out yesterday picking the corn on the standing rows. I was there 4 1/2 hours and we picked a little over 1/4 mile of it 3 rows at a time. It was  breezy which was ok. The barge box he had was a little high to throw in but everything seemed to work out ok.

That looks like a lot of fun there Charlie.I wish my corn would have done somthing. I was looking forward to some pickin fun this fall but Im still mowing hay trying to get the last bale so I would have been pressed for time anyway. By the way did you guys use hooks or pegs when picking by hand?

Zach he still has three rows left to pick so it might not be too late for you yet. My friend Josh tried a peg and he did not get along with it too good so he just bare gloved it. I used a 2 prong palm hook which worked good for me. I'll bring it along to the picker shows with me. The worst part was the height of the wagon oterwise it was alot of fun.

My sister's boyfried's combine broke down last year with a little under 2 acres to go.  He was going to mow it down.  I told him I would take it, but I had to pick it by hand.  Not an easy task.  We picked just about 220 bushels!!!
