Hi guys, I'm looking for a little advice. Have been looking at a John Deere #15, or possibly it is a #15A cornpicker. It is in almost perfect condition. The person selling it is the second owner, bought it from his neighbor 20 or so years ago. Has always been shedded. Was lightly restored 20 years ago or so; basically in great almost original condition.
It's mounted on a 1937 A John Deere which is restored. The unit is totally complete, functional, great rubber the works.
Now I've been collecting combines and corn pickers a few years, have a JD 237, 227 with 50 sheller, 226, 101, 100, 127, 200, and an 18. This should be a no brainer for me, but there is one problem; the guy knows what it's worth.
I've got first chance on this unit, he's asking $15,000 for it and absolutely will not budge, have been dealing on this for over half a year now. Still have a while to decide, as he's not doing anything with it until spring or summer.
Just thought I'd run this past some of you guys. As for myself will probably see how the money situation is after a while. Think my problem is after a while I wonder is that amount of $ couldn't be used in a better way.
After reading this I can see I'm trying to talk myself into this!!
Hello from snowy NE Illinois. The price sounds a little high to me, but I believe it was Charlie who has pictures of a rough 15 that sold for around $5000 at an auction. If the tractor has the original side shields, super snoot, and muffler guard helps with the price. About 5 or 6 years ago, I tried to buy a 25 in usable condition and with all the extras, also you could see the decals, sold for $2850, of course now it would be worth a lot more. For what it's worth, I saw up in SD a ground driven JD corn picker that wasn't quite ready to pick corn and the 2 guys who own it turned down $8000 for it. Good luck with your decision. CornPickerBob
Hello there I found a couple of pictures of the #15 that sold at auction here in Iowa in June of 2009 and it sold for $5750.00. It was taken out of the shed a week before the auction. The picker looked to be in useable condition. (With the help of a grease gun and oil can.) Where are you located at?
Your welcome for the pictures. Yes that is a #25 push picker on a 1937 JD "A". It is not my picker but I run it during the Old Threshers reunion at Mt. Pleasant Ia. The #15 that you are looking at looks to be a pretty decent unit.
