A friend of mine(?) says that the 234 corn picker was tthe worst picker ever made and the New Idea pull type picker was the best- any cmments? I told him he was full of bs
I can not say anything about the 234, but my dad and I had a 2MH. It was terrible to mount, at least the elevator part. What a chore that was!! I was so glad when dad got rid of that picker for a NI 319. The grease bank on the 2MH was very handy. I would assume that IH only improved their pickers over the years. I have only heard good things about them. One of these days I will experience the 234 as I am stashing money away and looking for a 234 picker. I couldn't believe my ears when the wife said that I could buy a piece of farm machinery of equal value for every trip she takes with her gal pal. I am trying to see if that deal is retroactive, but I have decided not to push my luck!!
Hi 656, I was reading your post about the 2mh picker being hard to mount, I was setup man for an IH dealer when the 2mh first came out, compared to the 2me this picker was a breeze to put on. If you set the stand just right and took the pivit ball caps off, when you let it down the picker would raise up off the pivit balls, the elevator of course had to come off first,if you disconneted the pto shaft, dropped the elevator stand, removed the 4 bolts on each side of the gear box frame, you could drive the tractor and picker away from the elevator, the support rods also had to be disconnected and the elevator let down and supported on a sawhorse or something similer, however leaving the elevator connected to the gear box frame was a lot easier to handle, there was a small chain connected between the gear box frame and the elevator that supported the GB frame when it was disconneted from the picker, just my 2cents worth,farm-al
I trust your judgement. I was just a kid when I was helping my dad mount the 2MH picker. I don't remember the gathering unit but what sticks in the memory the most was the putting on and taking off the elevator and moving the elevator between the picking units in the shed. We didn't have a cement floor but it was a nice new machine shed. I asked my dad about the this post and he agreed with you that the 2MH was better than the 2ME picker to mount. The more I read about the 234 the more I am intrigued by it and wanting to find one.
