You are quick if you picked the picker alone up on Friday and mounted it and running it in 24 hours!! Need to get started on my similar little project eventually...

Let's say I had a few "experienced" hands to help mount it Friday when i picked it up. I need a super snout for it though. It fills the front radiator screen real quick!
I bet I could guess who was helping you! I hope I still have one at the same location to go pick up sometime. Trying to decide on the correct tractor to put under it though.

How did you come to have corn left to pick in April? Nice rig you got for yourself there - best picker you can get! ('course I'm a little biased......)

A friend puts corn out each year for deer which can be harvested for consumption, not for sale. So I get to pick about a wagon load each spring. I have an old pto driven Letz Burr Grinder from the late 1940's I salvaged. I grind some ear corn for a couple of calfs. We have a Model D sheller that I shell some with to crack for chickens and grind some for a pig or two. I grind the cobs up for bedding to use in our horse stalls....
I'm blessed, it allows me to play with my toys more often!!!

How do the cobs work in the stalls? I have always thought about grinding some for our horses but havent got around to it.

They do ok, but grind them to about 1/4 inch peices or they can rub their hair off. Most of the newer feed grinders can't get them small enough, they don't make a screen that is compatible.
Looks like a nice rig. The 319 with a 12 roll bed is a hard item to track down. Someone has taken good care of it through the years. Congratulations on your new find.
