I'm miffed at my neighbor!!!

He had a New Idea 324/327 in the trees for the past 14 years.  Everthing was rusted up and the elevator bottoms were holed, but there was a lot of good parts on there I could use to keep mine running.  I kept asking him if he'd sell it, and he'd never come up with a definite answer.  I even said I'd pay over scrap value.  Got the same answer as always 'well, I'll think about it".  This morning, local iron monger stops in to see if I have any scrap.  On his trailer is the 324 and other equipment from my neighbor!  Turns out my neighbor GAVE it to him just to clean up the tree row!  So I asked if I could buy it for parts.  "no, I ain't messin' with unloading it, goin' right to the crusher from here!"

when iron prices go down and that guy comes in here again begging for free scrap "because he's got kids to feed" I'll tell him they can eat their old shoes . . . .

"kids to feed" lmao Sounds like the bums around here > I've had them say thats my wife and kids over there in the car and we're just left the union hall cause i got laid off and trying to go home to{insert state here}. And while I'm telling him to get a better story or better yet a job, the women in the car drives off. I told him ,I guess his car wasnt out of gas after all! The neighbor will want something some day. Maybe if you rent your fields out or something along that line, string him along then then ask how he liked a taste of his own medicine. There's a place like that complete with a corn picker that has been sitting out for years and brush growing up around it. Surprised the govt hasnt been on him to clean it up.

I know the feeling. Last year my dads cousin had a Wood Bros. corn picker cut up when she had an iron guy out to clean up some other iron. Just drives you nuts and makes you mad.

I had a scrap guy leave my place mad as a wet hen when I told him that he could only have the rusty lightweight crap laying out in a couple of small metal piles. (Broken steel posts, a caved in metal corn crib, etc.) I wouldn't let him take all the equipment parked inside the sheds. He was disgusted that we wanted to hang onto all that "old junk". Don't let the gate hit your fender on the way out the driveway. Sheesh.

lol Yeh those guys tend to be opertunists[sic]I think the lure of easy untaxed money is the only reason most of them are in it.From my experience and in the days of old low scrap prices it wasnt worth the $ it cost in gases to cut up metal. Metal was always:down" when you were selling. To tell the truth ,I havent met one of those types i'd let on the place.Too many things come up missing.Kind of like when a lot of 'mushroom hunters,"sportsmen',etc come onto the place. Planter lids, pump handles, etc. tend to dissapear.

A while back at an auction I witnessed a man and woman buying up plows, I thought they might be family because at most sales you can spot a scrapper, they just have that crawled out from under a rock look to them. They were scrapping them out and they were paying more for the plows than what cut steel was bringing at the time.I dont understand how much longer these scrappers can go buy good machinery, cut it up, and lose money doing it. It makes no sense to me.I keep up on the steel prices before I go to any sales that way I know what the bottom I have to give is to keep it out of the junk yard.
