I need some help on Gravity Wagons. I bought a 324 New idea picker and I now am looking at wagons. What are good wagons and BU. capacity for this picker? I am looking at a Killbros 300 with bin extensions, would this wagon be a good fit? Please, your thoughts.
Just watch your height. It may be too tall with the extensions. I have picked in gravity wagons with my no 10 but had to watch going through dips so I didn't smash my elevator. I'm sure someone here has picked with that exact combo and can tell you more.
84" from ground to top edge is the most I can do, and the wagon needs a long hitch pole. New Idea did sell an elevator extension section and a wagon hitch extension to use big gravity wagons but there don't seem to be many of them out there. BTW, the best gravity wagon I've ever seen for ear corn is from EZ-trail. If I had the money, I'd buy 6 model 230s and get rid of my ragtag fleet of rustbuckets and Little Giants . . . .
In the case of pull pickers, bigger is not better as far as wagons go, especially if you happen to be using a picker-sheller. The frame on these pickers was made for 230-250 bu wagons and smaller. There have been several NI pickers that I have looked at over the years that have obvious frame damage from pulling wagons that were too big. And in the case of picking ear corn, a brand of wagon that has the option of a removable front on the tip-top extensions (to make room for the picker elevator) would be a plus. I know Kilbros had this for sure and there are other brands that did this as well.
I have a 250 & a 300 both with extesions the 250 works good with my 309 and u need to leave the front boards off and cut the sides on a 45 degree angle like the outhers said u just need to watch going thru diches & dips.

I like a fold up wagon that had a metal bed and was great for ear corn with a rocking bolster and folded down into a faltbed for baling .Around our area J+M s werethe most populat because of the way they unloaded with the angle of the floor and sides was suck that the "bottom" literallyt fell out from under the wet corn and would practically unload them selves with out a lot of shaking.
i got a pair of parkers maybe 180-200bushel and a M and W little red wagon 250 and id take the parkers anyway the corn flows out almost as good as shelled corn lol
