HELP WITH A JOHN DEERE 300 HUSKER.

NEED A LITTLE HELP WITH THE ELECTRICMAGNETIC CLUTH ON THE ELEVATOR. CLEANED THE CONNECTIONS, REPLACED THE WIRE AND THE SWITCH BETWEEN THE BATTERY AND CLUTCH, WACKED IT WITH A HAMMER AND STILL NOTHING. IT WILL NOT ENGAGE.

I AM OUT OF IDEAS. IF ANYONE HAS ANY LET ME KNOW.                                              THANKS  BILL

My brother-in-law had the same problem and wound up replacing the clutch.  He found a used one off the unload auger of a JD 6601 pull type combine.  Maybe check with your JD parts people to see what other machines might have used the same clutch.

I've never seen one, but as its electrical, I would check it with an ohm meter.

The coil should read a low ohm value. Maybe no more than 10 ohms. If it is open it will read infinity (very high ohm value).

Can you post a pic of it?

Other things to check. If the wires on the outside are crimped/soldered to the coil, check both of those connections. Check for good lug connections. Grab them with pair of pilers and give them a good tug. Sometimes they look good, but are not.

Where are you located in NW,Pa?  I have a brother in Meadville.

Perry

Mine still works fine,, but I know that part is NLA.. I wondered if mine ever gave trouble if the electric clutch off a lawn mower could be used...
