Farmall Super M picker

I would like to put a mounted picker on my Super M . Could someone give me an idea of what models will work on it best.

Depends if you want an IH picker on your IH tractor or not. A 2-M or 2-MH picker will work, but these are older pickers, clumsy and hard to mount. (Most guys who had these pickers years ago mounted them on an M Farmall and left them there.)

A 234 IH picker will fit fine, is easier to mount and is a newer, more user-friendly picker. You have to have the correct mounting brackets for an M, though. Although this newer picker is probably a better fit with a newer IH tractor, such as a 560 or 706/806.

Or if you don't mind having another brand of picker, a New Idea 305 or 319 mounted picker works very nice also. These are more readily available and fairly easy to mount. Many of these were mounted on an M Farmall in the past so finding one with the correct mounts is fairly easy, or if it doesn't have the correct ones, there are several people on this forum who could help you out with that.

Some other brands of mounted pickers did have mounts available for them to mount on an M Farmall (such as the JD 237, Ford and possibly the later Oliver/MM mounted pickers), but finding one of these with mounts for your tractor would be very difficult, if not virtually impossible.

Thanks for the reply, I have entertained the New Idea pickers but haven't found one yet. Anything metal around here has been nabbed by the scrappers and cut up.

I am not sure where you are located in the states, but there are mounted pickers out there. JDtom is right, if you are wanting to stay with the IH theme, IH did make good pickers with the 234 being their best and last. My dad had a 2MH on an M and it worked fine but it worn out and I was not fond of taking it on and off each season. When we got the NI 319...what a dream! And it is a great picker! We still have it and there are pictures on here of it in action. This past fall I bought a IH 234 and am chomping a the bit to get it mounted to run some corn through it.

There is an IH 2MH in Red Wing MN on craigslist minneapolis, if you are interested in a red picker. I believe there is another one not too far away from here in northeast Iowa that was used up through last fall. As for the NI pickers, they are out there and depending where you are at, they still can be found here in southeastern MN.

Good luck!

Yes I still have the 2MH.  I do have a 234 that would be for sale, but it needs some work.  PM me if you want more info.
