I just got a NI 309 and have not used it yet but before I do I thought it would be smart to try to find out what the best pto speed is to run the 309 at.
What speed to you guys find works the best? Also what ground speed seems to be about right?
I understand that I will need to adjust my speed based on how well it is working but seems it can't hurt to have a good starting point.
Here what I do with my New Ideal 309 picker, I pull my with a MF 275 tractor and run at 1500 rpm. The 540 pto speed on that tractor is at 1750-1800 rpm. So Iraun just under 540 pto speed. Don't know if that right thing to do, but seems to work out ok for me. I pick in 4th low gear or 3th low if the corn is real good. I got drought corn this year don't know if it be worth picking yet, going to try some when I get time.

Thanks for the replys. Looks like I'll start out running it at 540 and then adjust from there as needed. I'm using a JD 7130 and 540 is at 2200 engine rpm so that is where I run it for most everything else I do anyway.
