Hey guys i was going over my ni 324 and checking the gear boxes. The main gear box that the pto runs into was good i added gear oil. When i opened the right and left snapping unit gear boxes they had what looked to be a mixture of gear oil and grease and maybe some water. The gears look great there shinny clean almost like stainless steel. This is my first picker so i was just wandering is it ok to put grease in them. Is it a normal thing that the gear boxes must leak oil and water get in so people fill them with grease?I didnt know if it would be ok to run with grease and not try to seal them back up to put gear oil in.
You can get corn head grease from most implement dealers. It is more of a liquid than regular grease, but a little thicker than oil. If your gear box is leaking, try putting that in. It will still flow a bit to get on and around your gears, but won't leak out as easy as oil.
ok cool. I see what i can find. If not will heavy duty lithium grease be ok to use. Will the grease work good. Can i use it like that for a few years or should i take the time and re seal all the gear boxes and put gear oil back in them.
