Help with a question

hi guys, just want to start by saying i really enjoy the stories and pics on here, brings back lot of memories. i live in west tn. have never saw a john deere 43 sheller but i have found one here in my area.i need to shell 200 bushels of corn a year,in yalls opinion would this sheller do the job for me. could you give me advice on some things to look at on the machine to tell if it is good shape. also could yall give me some indication of what would be a fair price for this sheller.thanks

dozerman,

I have attached some pics of my JD43. Lots to fix when I got it. The bottom sheet metal wasw rusted throu. I replaced it and put in a new flighting. The 3 pattles in the blower were worn out. Got new ones at John Deere store. Had two bushings that I replaced and everything needed grease. I also replace all the rubber pads on the cob stacker chain. Bought rubber from McMaster-Carr and cut to size. Pictures show some of it. Not hard to do, just took time.

I shell from 200 to 375 bu. each year with it. Works well.

Good luck with yours.

Perry

The last time I used my JD 43 sheller it was cracking too much corn so I slowed down the RPM s on the tractor, made a big difference.
I hope this helps. CornPickerBob

Good job, dozerman, saved another one I would like to find one of those so I could use my Harvest Handler elevator. If you don't mind me asking, what was it worth? Also does it just blow the corn in the wagon or how does it work? thanks Dale

thanks mrcornpicker i think you may be right,i read in the book it said that if useing ford or ferguson tractor that you may have to throttle down to get proper sheller speed and i was useing ferguson with throttle all way back. cant wait for weather to break where i can get it out and play with it a little. and to you redcru as far as how it works,it has a cylinder and screen for the shelling, kernels fall to a aurger that carry it to a thower that throwes the corn out a tube. the book said at 1025 rpm it will elevate the corn eighteen feet. after seeing it work i belive it will. far as what it is worth, i not sure, but i payed $1000.00 i think that may be a little to much, but all that i could find were up north, and this one was with in driving distance for me,so i felt it was worth it to me,and it is in really good shape. i will try to put some pics on a little later,i know more about corn shellers than i do about these computers and pics and that ant much.thanks james
