Just bought a new idea 10 and have some questions

i just bought a new idea 10 so that I can pick some ear corn to sale to deer hunters in the area.  I'm just wondering if the corn husks are removed as the stalk and ear go through the snapping rolls.  i didn't really research before I bought the thing because it was advertised as a 350 and for the price I couldnt pass it up.  But now that I have it here at the house I think it is a 10.

also any tips on maintaining  and operation would be greatly appreciated.

First and easiest way to tell the difference if nothing has been changed or removed is the PTO shield. That one has none !! First WARNING do NOT do anything to that machine with the GD machine with it RUNNING !!!!! THe previous owner has had some pto driveline problems or the pto shield would NOT be removed!! You can buy and I would first thing is buy a shield for that pto. I have a #7 which is identical except for the pto shield and a few minor things.. My grandfather pulled his with a ford 8N.. It will shell a lot in the row due to the design of the snapping rolls. Ears will get stuck on them and sit there and get shelled.. I paid for a #325 2 row in 2-3 years in shelled corn savings.Yes some shucks or husks will come off early in the snapping rolls but the majority is done in the husking bed.Get the owners manual and study it. Print a copy of the lubrication pages and laminate it and keep it with you till you find all of the grease zerks. Keep it greased! it has a lot of brass bearings in it and they need to be kept well lubed! All in all it is a great picker. easy to hook up and go to the field. It will pick up downed corn better than a mounted but the tradeoff is you have to open the fields either by hand or have someone with a mounted picker or combine open it for you.

We also use a laminated copy of the lube page from the manual. We drag it with us as we lube our 324. Very handy, and the grease/oil/dirt wipes right off. We solved the field-opening issue by planting hay strips through and around our corn fields. We don't ear-pick all the fields, but we can pull a picker through any of them without having to open them with a different machine. We need the hay for our cattle operation anyway, and the hay strips really help with erosion ditches. Fewer ditches=smoother rides while picking. I don't know if you need the hay, though.

Thanks for the advice guys I'll be sure to use it when start picking. Well I believe this one is gonna go on Craigslist because I don't see a busker bed on it and most hunters in my area don't want husks.

Any advice on what 1 row picker with husked bed that can be pulled by a Ferguson to20?
