After a spring flood, more rain than Ive ever seen all summer, relentless deer damage, and a 6 month long tractor repair on my 574 we finally started picking! If anyone has harvest pictures or trials and tribulations of growing corn this year, add on. I love seeing how others do things, and when I hear stories of others challenges, makes me feel like its just a part of it and next year will be better.

Retired in August and had hoped to have a fun time picking about ten acres this fall. Finished at 6:45 PM Friday night. So muddy I could only go downhill with a NI323 and a 65 HP 4WD tractor with diff lock on. And half loads of corn in the wagon. The couple of times I tried uphill I was very happy to get thru. We've got an inch of rain since then and a couple more in the forecast this week. That should give us about 60 inches for the year then.
Had planned to try out the new to me 325/314 picker sheller. But just glad to be done. BTW I got the picker/sheller for $350 at a very cold winter sale. And it does shell. That much I tested out on tossed in ears.
Deer damage varied up to 100 percent in areas. Overall about 30 percent. I had 200 BPA corn a couple years ago in late summer. Final yield was closer to 130. After first cut of hay this summer I went out to eliminate a few woodchucks. Watched five bucks go into the corn. Turned and saw three bucks walking across a field in back. When I got back to the house twelve bucks were eating beans next door. And I saw no doe that night. That was twenty visible deer on 200 acres. Got some tags to fill later in November.
