Normally this is fall work, but.... My brother plants a food plot each year on property that we own. This year there was still a lot of corn left on it, so rather than disc it down he gave me a call. So I dug out the New Idea #7 and greased her up and last Wednesday I went out and picked two loads of corn off it. It was a perfect day-temp got up into the 70's. My nephew and his boys came out to watch. They had never seen a corn picker work before. Everything worked perfectly and we got to have some fun.
In the process, we also replicated a Charles Freitag painting which is on a decorative plate that I have. (This was not done intentionally, but just turned out to be an interesting coincidence.)
I like both pictures. Hard to believe there are folks that have not seen a corn picker in action. I'm barely into my 50s and can remember several of them still running in our neighborhood in SW Iowa when I was a kid. Of course, it was a lot more like work back then, since we didn't grow beans, and all of the corn went into several cribs and snow-fence piles. It's a lot more fun now that we only fill a couple of squirrel cages each year and combine the rest. Still good cattle feed! Thank you for posting both pictures.
