I always just jacked wide equipment up and put blocks under the axles and chain them down tight so blocks dont shift on the way home ----- never lost one yet.
Depends also on what type of trailer you have. I have seen pull type combines loaded on 18' car haulers this way and it does work.
Ya, them 300 are really wide.
On a goose neck flatbed you may be able to just drag it up letting the wheels hang over the sides and chain it down directly to the floor. ---put loose boards under the head so lower parts dont hang up on your ramps.---should work.
The owner & I have decided we can take off the corn head (3 row), use two loaders to hold the picker up in the air to back the trailer under it & let it down. Then load the corn head separately.
hey picker dude (or anyone else) any ideas on how to load and/or haul a JD 237 mounted picker short of bringing a tractor along to mount it on? any help would be appreciated
we used to have an axle with brackets welded on and tongue to hook to truck for IH mounted pickers. hook up axle and pull them down the road or back them up on trailers or into the shed. worked great. I assume you dont have any loaders at the loading site? This is slow, but before the axle, we jacked them up, put planks under them and used come-a-longs to drag them up on the trailer. --- works but like I said slow!
Well, I got'er home. I bought a JD 237 picker in Nebraska and brought it back to Michigan. Was as not sure how to get it loaded so decided to take my JD 50 along and mount the picker to it before loading on a trailer. worked out perfect! Needed every bit of my 25ft trailer though. had to lay to elevator down for fear of bridge clearance. still had 2ft sticking out the back.
The above is how I brought my 237 home. It had the 'universal mounts' which made it a little bit quicker to put on my 60.
I learned my lesson on a previous excursion, where the owner twisted a near mint 227, all to s**T, when he was trying to load it on my trailer.
The 226 I bought was somewhat easier to pick up, due to the crosspipe, and the fact that I had made a lifting sling with two attachment points to chain to both ends of the crosspipe.
yup, that's what I didn't want to do with this one is screw it up trying to load it. If you can believe it this picker has a total of 150 acres on it. I bought it from the son of the original owner. He said his dad picked 75 acres of seed corn ever year with his old 237. Heard they were going to discontinue the 237 so went to the local JD dealer and bought the last brand new one on the yard. Used it 2 years. then parked in in his pole barn and never used it again. (see pic) been sitting there since 1070? it had all the screens, and accessories to fit a 3020. I plan to use it on 20 acres. Now all I need to find is a #50 sheller to attach to it. let me know if anyone out there has one for sale or knows of one for sale.
