Has anyone removed the gathering chain gear box on the right side of this picker? It is leaking my 80-90 grease that I put in it. I don't know how much to remove to replace the seals?? When I grab the top of the Long Gathering chain Drive there is a little play in it. I'm debating to just put some more 80-90 grease or even pivot gear box grease to get thru the season and then try to repair it. I only pick 10-12 acres of dry land corn.
We have 3 running 324s and 1 parts one that we used for several years before retiring it. One of the pickers has a similar gearbox as yours. We use corn head grease in that one instead of 90-weight or 80W-90, and it has worked fine for years. Corn head grease is just barely pourable, might have to use an old spoon to put it into the gearbox. I should probably replace the seals, but this is a functional solution for no more than we use it.
